41xkuxt9iblHER ONE DESIRE by Kimberly  Killon

A TERRIFIC book –A nice sprinkling of well-researched history from the War of the Roses and an interesting character in the Executioner’s daughter.  The hunky Scottish spy doesn’t deter me either.  A writer to watch; a book to keep.

last-townTHE LAST TOWN ON EARTH by Thomas Mullen

The influenza epidemic wiping out entire communities causes a mill town in the Pacific Northwest to establish a quarantine to protect its citizens.  One night a soldier approaches the men guarding the only road to town, asking for food and shelter.  What should the guards do?  This thought-provoking debut novel is based on historical events during World War I.

31dmbmh7zyl_002BLOOD BROTHERS by Nora Roberts

First of a trilogy.  Celebrating their 10th birthday, 3 boys unleash Evil, which then invades their town every 7 years, driving people to kill.  Now, 21 years later, they prepare for a “final” showdown.  Creepy, fun and romantic (once the girls get there).  Nora pulls it off again!  The other books in the Sign of Seven trilogy are The Hollow and The Pagan Stone.

Tyler Kabbes 2009 TYLER, a college student at SIUE, majoring in business.

long-way-down A LONG WAY DOWN by Nick Hornby

Instead of focusing on the events that lead to suicide, Hornby decides to look into what happens when people decide not to take the jump.  This is the story of a convicted child molester, a mother of a “vegetable”, a confused teenager and a failed musician who run into each other at a popular suicide point, and how they influence each other for the next several months.  The story runs the gamut of emotions, giving the reader a real sense of involvement in the novel.  Written in four different voices and perspectives. This is a book about the discovery that all problems are not solved simply because someone wants to live.
